Hybrid and electric vehicles are not only cheaper to fuel they are also cheaper to service. SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) highlights that they have less wear and tear due to having fewer moving parts. In addition to these savings the government also offers numerous incentives for purchasing a hybrid or fully electric vehicle.

• Both BEV and PHEV qualify for the Low Emissions Vehicle Toll Incentivewhich means there is a reduction in toll fees, BEV toll fee is reduced by 50% and it is reduced by 25% for PHEV.
• Lower rates of tax, BEVs qualify for the lowest rate of tax at €120 per year, PHEVs are taxed at around €170 per year.
• SEAI offer a €600 grant to assist with the installation of a home charger. This is available to anyone who purchases a new or used BEV or PHEV.
• EVs also qualify for Benefit in Kind exemption, therefore if an employee uses an electric vehicle for private use they can qualify for an exemption or partial exemption of BIK rates.
